Axis 360 FAQs

    Step-by-step instructions: (Printable version)

    Install the Axis 360 app and log in
    1. Go to the app store on your device, search for “Axis 360” and follow the prompts to install it. (You will need your Apple ID or Google Play Store username and password.)
    2. Once installed, open the app and tap Skip to Find Your Library or School Now at the bottom of the screen.
    3. Tap in the box that says Search for My Library, type in Jefferson County Public Library, tap Search, and then tap on Jefferson County Public Library (Colorado).
    4. Tap in white space to right of Library ID, enter your Jefferson County Public Library card number and tap Login.
    5. To finalize your account, tap on Account and then tap in the white space next to Name* and Email* to enter your contact information. Tap Update My Account, then OK.
    Search or browse
    • Searching: Tap on the magnifying glass icon at the top, enter a title, author, or keyword and tap Search. Results are sorted by Popularity, but can be sorted by Publication Date, Title, or Author.
    • Browsing: Tap on the browse icon at the bottom and select a category.
    • The icon in the top corner of the book cover indicates whether the title is an e-book or audiobook.
    • When the icon is green, the title is available for check out. When the icon is grey, the title is checked out and you may place a hold.
    • You can apply filters to limit the search or browse results by tapping on Filter and then tapping on Available Now, eBook, and/or Audiobook. Filters remain in place until removed.
    Check out and read or listen
    • Tap on the cover of a title with a green e-book/audiobook icon, tap Checkout, and tap Checkout again. If you have wifi access, the title will download automatically. If it does not, tap Download.
    • You may check out 99 titles at one time.
    • Titles checkout for 21 days and may be renewed unless another patron has placed a hold.
    • Items are automatically returned on their due date and there are no late fees.
    • To read or listen to your title, tap on My Stuff, then Checkouts, select the title, then tap Read/Listen Now or Continue.
    • For e-book menu options such as table of contents and adjusting font size and type, tap on the screen. Font options, bookmarks, and more will appear at the top right. The table of contents can be reached at the top left.
    • To close the book, tap on the screen and then the back arrow. Your place is automatically bookmarked.
    Place a hold
    • To place a hold, tap on the cover of a title with a gray e-book/audiobook icon and tap Place On Hold. You’ll receive an email notice when your hold is ready to check out.
    • Once the title is ready to check out, close your email, open the Axis360 app, tap on My Stuff, then On Hold.
    • Tap Checkout next to the title, then tap Checkout again.
    • You can change the settings in your Axis 360 online account (in a browser), or under My Account in the app, so that your holds are automatically checked out.
    • You may have 70 titles on hold at one time.
    • You have three days to check out a hold once it becomes available for you.
    Early returns and renewing
    • Items are automatically returned on their due date and there are no late fees. To return a title early, tap on My Stuff, then Checkouts, and tap on the title. Tap Return, then Yes.
    • If a title does not have holds, you can renew as many times as you’d like. You will have the option to renew within three days of its due date.
    • To renew, tap on My Stuff, then Checkouts, and tap on the title. Tap Renew, then Yes.
    • Press Remove and then Download Now to reactivate the title.
  • Step-by-step instructions: (Printable version)

    1. In a browser, visit our Axis 360 collection (jeffco.axis360.baker-taylor.com) to browse or search for titles.
    2. If your desired title is available, click Checkout next to it and enter your library card number. If your title is not available, click Place Hold and enter your library card number.
    3. Use the menu at the top left to access your list of checkouts or holds.
    4. Next to one of your checked out titles, click the Read/Listen Now button. The first time you do this, you might need to allow Axis 360 to launch pop-ups in your browser.
    5. After the book opens, click anywhere in the page to reveal the menus. Explore the options at the top right: font size, note-taking, bookmarks, audio speed, etc.
    6. To download an e-book for offline reading, click the three horizontal lines on the top left to see the Main Menu. (Only e-books can be accessed offline at this time.)
      1. Click Offline Access and wait for it to download. You will get a success message.
      2. Create a browser bookmark (click the star icon to the right of the address bar) so you can return later to the book.
      3. When you use the bookmark to return to the book, you will be prompted to enter your Library ID (your library card number).

    Notes:

    • Your checked out item will automatically return at the end of the loan period. If you wish to return an item early, click the Return button next to the title in your Checked Out list.
    • If a title does not have holds, a Renew button will appear next to your Checked Out items 3 days before it will expire.
    • You may have 99 checkouts and 70 holds at one time.
    • Once you are notified that a hold is ready, you have 3 days to check it out. You also have the option of changing the settings in your Axis 360 online account so that your holds are automatically checked out.

    Install Adobe Digital Editions
    1. Download and install Adobe Digital Editions (www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions) on your computer. Follow prompts to complete installation.
    2. When the “Setup Assistant” displays, click Continue.
    3. Click Get an Adobe ID online.
    4. Your internet browser will open. Click Create an Adobe ID account.
    5. Follow the prompts and click Continue.
    6. Go back to the Adobe Setup window on your computer and enter your Adobe ID and password. Click Activate and Finished.
    Browse and check out
    1. In a browser, go to our Axis 360 collection (jeffco.axis360.baker-taylor.com) to search or browse for titles, log in with your library card, and borrow. Make sure you are looking only at e-books by clicking on one of the filters near the top right of the page and selecting "eBook."
    2. When you find a book that is available, click Checkout. (If a book is not available, click Place Hold.)
    3. Click on the menu in the top left, then Checkouts.
    4. Next to the title, click More Options, then Download.
    Download and transfer
    1. After the file downloads to your computer, open the file and it should automatically launch Adobe Digital Editions (ADE).
    2. Select the Library view.
    3. Connect your reader to your computer with its cord.
    4. Your reader should appear in the navigation on the left.
    5. Click and drag the book to your device.
    6. Safely eject your e-reader. Books can be found in My Documents, My Files, or in a Digital Editions folder.
    Early return and renewing

    Nook Glowlight Plus and Nook Color - Special instructions:
    1. Instead of clicking and dragging in Adobe Digital Editions, right-click the e-book in ADE and click Show File in Explorer (Windows) or Show File in Finder (Mac).
    2. Drag the e-book file from the folder that opens to the My Files folder of your NOOK. Your NOOK will appear as a removable device in the left-hand side of the Explorer or Finder window.
    3. Find the newly transferred e-book on your NOOK under Library > My Files.
    Nook GlowLight 3 and GlowLight Plus 7.8"- Special instructions:
    1. Connect your Nook to your computer.  
    2. Open Adobe Digital Editions. (You may need to tap “Turn On” on your Nook screen for the device to be recognized by ADE. If Windows File Explorer opens when you “turn on” the Nook, close the Explorer window.)
    3. Click and drag the book to your Nook.
    4. Tap on the Gear icon next to “Devices” and click on “Authorize” to authorize the device with your ADE account.
    5. Eject your Nook from your computer.
    6. You must now add your Adobe ID credentials to your Nook.
    7. Tap the upper right corner of the status bar to open Quick settings and tap on “See All Settings.”
    8. Open “My Account.”
    9. Tap “Adobe DRM Setting” (You will see your email & ADE ID number listed under “Authorized Adobe IDs, but you still need to add your password in the next step.)
    10. Tap on  “Add Adobe ID”  and enter your Adobe ID  (email) and password.

    Download the Libby app from the app store

    The Libby app should be available in the Kindle Fire app store. If you see it after searching for "Libby," install it, and open it. Then, follow prompts to find Jefferson County Public Library, and enter your library card number.

    Download the Libby app directly

    If you do not see Libby in the search results after searching in the app store, follow these instructions for directly downloading the app:

    1. In the app store, search for Libby. If you see Libby in the search results In the Silk browser on your Fire tablet, go to overdrive.com/apps/libby/kindlefire, opens a new window and under Step 1, tap on “download link for the Libby APK.”
    2. Tap OK, Allow, or Continue to proceed. The wording may vary and you may get warnings saying that the Silk browser needs more access on your device or that this kind of file should be avoided. OverDrive tests the file to make sure it’s safe, so you can safely dismiss these messages for the Libby APK.
    3. If you see a prompt to open the download, tap Open. If you don’t see a prompt to open, locate the file in your downloads folder (possibly found under Utilities > Docs > Local Storage) and tap to open.
    4. Tap Install in the bottom right corner, if prompted.
    5. Once the file downloads, or the screen says App Installed, tap Open in the bottom right corner.
    6. If you have never used Libby, follow prompts to find Jefferson County Public Library, and enter your library card number. (Search For A Library)
    7. If you already use Libby on another device, you can use a setup code to copy your library cards, loans, holds, and tags to your Kindle Fire tablet. (Copy From Another Device)

    If you get stopped at any time in Steps 1 – 5, please see these notes:

    • You may get warnings saying that the Silk browser needs more access on your device or that this kind of file should be avoided. OverDrive tests the file to make sure it’s safe, so you can safely dismiss these messages for the Libby APK.
    • If you get a message saying your device is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source, tap Settings, and toggle “Allow from this source” on. (Note: Turn this setting back to off after installing the Libby app, under your device home screen Settings, then Privacy & Security.)
    Search or browse

    Tap on the building icon to browse featured titles and categories. Tap on the magnifying glass icon to search.

    Check out and read
    • Tap on Borrow near a title’s cover and then tap Borrow again. Tap Open Book to begin reading in the app (it automatically downloads), tap on Keep Browsing to continue searching for titles, or Go To Shelf to see the other reading options.
    • To adjust font size and type, tap on the screen and use the menu bar at the top of the page.
    • To close the book, tap on the screen to access the menu options and tap Back. Your place is automatically bookmarked.
    • To access your borrowed titles, tap on the stacked book icon, then loans. Turn the pages by swiping left or right on the screen or tapping near the left or right.
    Place a hold
    • Tap Place a Hold near a title’s cover, then tap Place Hold again. Tap Keep Browsing to continue searching for titles, Suspend Hold if you need to, or Go To Shelf.
    • Libby will not send email notifications about holds by default. Tap on Menu then Settings, then Manage Notifications and follow prompts to select your notification preferences.
    • When you receive a notification that a hold is ready, tap on the stacked book icon, then holds.
    • When a hold is ready, you have 3 days to borrow it, delay it, or cancel it.
      • To borrow it, tap on Borrow near the cover, and tap Borrow again.
      • To deliver the hold later, tap Deliver Later and choose a new delivery date.
      • To cancel the hold, tap Manage Hold, then Cancel Hold.
    • If you forget about a hold during the 3 days, it will be automatically scheduled for later delivery one time.

    2. Browse by Subject or Collections, or search by title, author or keyword by clicking on the magnifying glass icon.
    3. When you find an available title, click Borrow and follow prompts to sign in.
    4. Click the Read Now in Browser button.
    5. Use the menus at the top to change font size, use bookmarks, or search within the text.
    6. To close the book, close the browser tab. Your place is automatically bookmarked.
    7. If the e-book you find is not available, click Place a Hold, follow prompts to sign in, and enter your email address if needed. Magazines will always be available.

    Notes:

    • Your borrowed item will automatically return at the end of the loan period. If you wish to return an e-book early, click the Return button near the title (in classic OverDrive ) or click Manage Loan next to the title (in Libby).

    • Printing from magazines is not currently possible.

    Create your Hoopla account

    In a browser, go to hoopladigital.com and click Get Started Today. Follow the steps to set up your account:

    1. Enter your email address and a password
    2. Find and select Jefferson County Public Library
    3. Enter your library card number
    Amazon Fire TV
    1. After you create your Hoopla account, go to the Fire TV app store on Amazon and search for "hoopla." Select the Fire TV device on which you’d like to install the app and click "deliver."
    2. In a few moments, you should see the Hoopla app. It might be at the very end of the "Your Apps and Games" section. Once you find the app, you can press the option button to choose to move it higher on the list.
    3. Open the Hoopla app and sign in with your account.
    4. At the top of the next screen a 4-digit code is displayed. Using a mobile or desktop browser on another device, visit hoopladigital.com/link and enter the code.
    5. Browse and borrow movie and TV titles from the Hoopla library and enjoy!

    Fire TV Notes:

    • Currently, 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation devices are currently supported. Fire TV Cube is not currently supported.
    • Only video works on Fire TV at the present. Support for audiobooks and music is coming soon.
    • Turn on closed captions by pressing the up navigation on your remote to make the progress bar appear. Press up again to highlight the pause and CC buttons. Press left or right to highlight CC and press the select button. CC will have a blue tint when it is on.
    • Turn on Kids Mode by using your remote to navigate to the blue side menu, then Settings, then Kids Mode, then Turn On. Kids Mode filters content for ages 13 and under.
    Android TV

    Apple TV Notes:

    • The Hoopla app is available on 4th and 5th gen devices. AirPlay is supported on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen devices.
    • Audiobooks, movies, music and television are supported on Apple TV. 
    • Turn on closed captions by swiping down with your remote to access the info, subtitles, and audio information menu. Swipe left or right to select subtitles, swipe again to select English. Swipe up until the menu goes away and your subtitles will display on screen.
    Chromecast
    1. After you create your Hoopla account, go to the app store on your device, search for the “Hoopla digital” app, and install it.
    2. Open the app and sign in with your account.
    3. Plug Chromecast into your TV, then connect the USB power cable to your Chromecast.
    4. Plug the other end of the USB cable into either an open USB port on your TV, or the included power adapter that plugs into an outlet.
    5. Open the Hoopla app on your device. You will see the Cast button in the top right hand corner. Tap this button and you will be shown a list of available Chromecast devices.
    6. Select the one you wish to cast to. Once the connection is established, the button will change, letting you know that the app is ready to cast.
    7. Start playing a video and it will be handed off to Chromecast for you to enjoy on your TV screen.
    8. You can control the playback by tapping on the small bar at the bottom of your mobile device’s screen, which will bring up the full screen controls, including a progress bar, access to the subtitle/closed captions selector, play/pause, etc.
    9. To access the volume control, tap the Cast button and you will see a slider allowing you to adjust the volume.
    10. To stop casting, tap the Cast button in the top right corner and Stop Casting.
    11. Your smartphone or tablet must be connected to the same WiFi network as your Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built in.

    Chromecast Notes:

    • Currently, casting to the 1st and 2nd generation Chromecasts from iOS 12 and up and Android 4.4.4 and up.
    • Chromecast Ultra and Smart TVs with Chromecast built-in are also supported.
    • Support for Chromecast Audio is coming soon and support for casting from a browser is coming soon.
    Roku
    1. After you create your Hoopla account, navigate to Streaming Channels, on your Roku, then Search Channels, and search for "hoopla." Click to add the channel.
    2. Select the Hoopla channel from your channels, and sign in with your account.
    3. At the top of the next screen a 4-digit code is displayed. Using a mobile or desktop browser on another device, visit hoopladigital.com/link and enter the code.
    4. Browse and borrow movie and TV titles from the Hoopla library and enjoy!

    Roku Notes:

    • Roku devices running 7.6.3 and higher are supported.
    • Turn on closed captions by starting your video, then pressing the option button on your remote. Use the up or down arrow until you highlight the closed captioning option. Use the left or right arrow until you highlight the Always On option. Press the OK button and your subtitles will display on the screen.

    6. Borrowed titles are listed under My Hoopla. From here you can:
      • Play or read the title.
      • See when it will be returned.
      • Return it early.
      • Add it to your Favorites (heart icon).

    Notes

    • Hoopla content is only available via streaming on computers, requiring an internet connection.
    • All of the titles are available all of the time, so there’s no requesting or waiting.
    • You may borrow 10 titles per month, and the count resets the first of the month. Daily borrowing limits for the system also apply, and those reset at midnight. If you encounter a limit, add your items to your “Favorites” and try again after midnight.

    2. Open the app and follow the steps to set up your account: tap Sign Up, find Jefferson County Public Library, and follow prompts to enter your library card number, enter your email address, and create a password.
    3. Use Search (magnifying glass icon) for specific items, or use the icons at the bottom of the screen to browse Video, Music, or Books.
    4. To check out a title, tap on the cover image, then tap Borrow.
    5. Tap Play to watch or listen. 
    6. Access what you have checked out by tapping My Hoopla. From there you can:
      • Play the title.
      • See when it will be returned.
      • Return it early.
      • Add it to your Favorites.
