Digital Accessibility at JCPL

Learn how JCPL is working on Digital Accessibility to comply with HB21-1110, Colorado Laws for Persons with Disabilities.

Jefferson County Public Library is committed to providing an inclusive environment for all members of our community, regardless of ability. As part of this commitment, we have been working toward compliance with Colorado's new digital accessibility law: House Bill 21-110: Colorado Laws for Persons with Disabilities, opens a new window, which took full effect on July 1, 2024.

HB21-110 requires that all state and local government websites and digital services be accessible to individuals with disabilities, allowing them to engage with similar ease in government employment, services, programs and activities as those without disabilities. By July 1, 2024, local governments must have had a plan using accessibility standards developed by the Colorado Office of Information Technology (OIT), opens a new window and been working toward compliance with the Web Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), version 2.1, level AA. These guidelines not only help make technology accessible to users with sensory, cognitive and mobility disabilities, but ultimately to all users, regardless of ability.

As we work to ensure that all JCPL digital access points are compliant with these guidelines, you may begin to notice some updates and changes to some of our web content, digital platforms and even in-person use of technology. Some of these changes and steps toward compliance can be found in the July 2024: JCPL Digital Accessibility Report, opens a new window, which will be updated quarterly to track our progress.

Submit a question, comment or accommodation request. Or discover additional resources that make the Library more accessible for all users, like our Assistive Technology and Digitization Stations, inclusive materials for children with sensory challenges, Library To You services and more.

Our commitment to digital accessibility is an ongoing and evolving process. We look forward to sharing with you our progress and updates as we continue to evaluate our systems and make improvements.
