Celebrating Summer Success

Library Summer Challenge Surpasses Expectations

Congratulations on another successful summer, Jefferson County!

More than 28,000 members of our community found fun and creative ways to participate in our Library Summer Challenge: Wild Ideas this year! From reading to logging exciting seasonal activities, your participation benefitted five local schools and this year's community partner, JeffcoEats, all while combating the summer slide! With more than 28,000 registrants, 14,000 finishers and 27 million points logged, this year's Summer Challenge exceeded all expectations, and we look forward to reading and achieving with you again next year.

Community Goal

This year, our community goal was set at five million points. We exceeded this goal within just the first few weeks of summer and logged more than 27 million points by summer's end! This means JeffcoEats, opens a new window will receive the full $500 donation to support their important mission of feeding Jefferson County residents. Way to go, Jeffco!

School Contest

While the Library Summer Challenge benefits the community through our collective goal, local schools also benefit from the challenge. Each year, one school within each of the five categories is awarded $800 to support school library or reading-related programs. Winners are based on highest percentage of finishers to enrollment within their categories. Congratulations to this year's school winners!

  1. Preschool: Addenbrook Classica Preschool
  2. Elementary School: Devinny Elementary
  3. Middle School: Evergreen Middle School
  4. High School: Green Mountain High School
  5. Charter/Special/Combined: Connections Learning Academy

Grand Prize Drawing

Congratulations to Rachael Thompson, patron at Columbine Library, who won our inaugural Grand Prize Drawing for a free iPad!

Thompson's name was selected from a pool of more than 28,000 Grand Prize Drawing entries. Entry into the drawing was earned for every 500 points after finishing, up to 8,000 points or 15 entries.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Grand Prize Drawing and the Summer Challenge this year! If you haven't already, pick up Summer Challenge prizes at any JCPL location through the end of August or while supplies last.

Though the Library Summer Challenge has ended, we're gearing up for our annual Raise a Reader program in September, which includes an exciting author talk with Steve Jenkins and Robin Page, indoor Story Times, a StoryWalk®, take-home activity kits and more fun for the whole family! We hope to see you soon!
