Youth Volunteers

From planning, decorating and staffing teen after-hours events and clubs to building valuable career skills and making new friends, the opportunities for volunteering at JCPL are endless! Scroll down to find the opportunity that best suits you!

Teen Advisory Board (TAB)

If you are passionate about sharing your voice with your Library and community, TAB might be just the volunteering opportunity for you. You'll work directly with other teens and teen librarians in planning and leading JCPL programs, organizing community service projects and providing input on library books and materials. Please note this is a long-term commitment position. TAB groups regularly meet once a month, and you'll have the opportunity to volunteer with programs and other projects as the need arises.

Summer Challenge Volunteers

Do you love to read? Do you enjoy encouraging others to read? Summer Challenge volunteers are the backbones of JCPL's Summer Challenge program every June and July. Teens staff the Library's Summer Reading desks, helping people of all ages register for the program, record their reading time and award prizes. This role is a great way to build job skills and independence over the summer, as you'll be responsible for signing up for shifts, recording your hours and communicating with your teen librarian.

Recruitment is closed for Summer 2023. Please check back again next year!

Other Opportunities

We occasionally have regular weekly shifts for teens who want to volunteer more frequently. This might involve helping with shelving, pulling holds for patrons, prepping craft projects for programs and other tasks. Teen volunteers also help JCPL with special events and programs throughout the year.

Please note: Opportunities vary by location. Check the minimum age requirement before applying.
