On Thursday, July 18, the Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) Board of Trustees authorized a lease agreement for a new location for the Conifer Library, located at 27122 Main St., opens a new window in Conifer. The space is in the same retail center as the Safeway on the south side of Highway 285.
Through the community engagement process, which began in 2023, we heard from many Conifer residents, including 690 completed surveys, 643 community meeting participants and 44 public comments. As a part of this process, we confirmed insights into the community's desire for accessibility in terms of parking, hours and physical space. More than 76 percent of survey respondents said they would like to see the Conifer Library located in an existing space.
With this community input in mind, JCPL engaged Crosbie Real Estate Group to begin the search process. From a starting list of 63 buildings and/or spaces, Crosbie Real Estate Group and JCPL narrowed it down to the Main Street location as the location that best meets the criteria.
The teams were able to find one large continuous space with natural light and ample parking. Using an existing space supports the Conifer/285 Corridor Plan, opens a new window to grow with a minimal amount of new construction while utilizing the Plan's Activity Center.
The architecture firm, EUA, led the community engagement process and will be the lead in the project design. EUA most recently was the architect lead on the Evergreen Library.
Next steps for the JCPL team include designing the library space and construction. Completion of these steps is expected in Summer 2025.
