South County Library Project
Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is embarking on an ambitious plan to open a new Library destination in the southern region of Jefferson County to provide greater access to resources, information, and opportunities for every generation.
Project Updates
The future South County Library was officially named Deer Creek Library by the JCPL Board of Trustees at their regular meeting on November 20, 2025. Taking inspiration from the nearby Deer Creek Canyon Park, the name is already familiar to the local community. The creek itself runs through the surrounding foothills and neighborhoods, making it a prominent natural feature nearby the future Library. In addition to clearly outlining the geographic location, this name meets JCPL brand standards, tone and clarity.
Deer Creek Library was selected from a larger list of names that were narrowed down to 13 for input by 151 staff members, 27 stakeholders and the leadership team. The Board of Trustees chose from two final recommended names, and Deer Creek Library was the overwhelming winner between all those groups.
From the name of the location to the design of physical spaces to the services provided, JCPL conducts through community engagement so each library in our system is reflective of the local community and its needs.
In May, we launched interim services at the South County Library location (11100 Bradford Rd., Littleton, CO 80127). The site now serves as the South County Bookmobile stop, providing weekly access to Bookmobile services and on-site programs. Additional programming will be available starting in June 2025 and will continue until the South County Library opens with full services in 2027.

FAQs
-
Site criteria, which included size, location, convenience, technical requirements, and sustainability and stewardship, were all exceeded with this site (11100 Bradford Rd., Littleton, CO 80127). In addition, the location has an intuitive entryway and parking, potential for outdoor spaces, is adjacent to major thoroughfares, and is near other government services.Â
More information on the factors used to determine our new site can be found in the Recommendation for Site Selection Criteria document.
-
JCPL’s site search process encompassed several routes for finding and exploring sites, including JCPL driving tours of the area, working with a commercial realtor, pursuing suggestions from the community and advisory council, conversations with community stakeholders, reviewing Jeffco school closures, and pursuing opportunities for partnerships and sites that were not on the market.Â
JCPL considered 50 properties within five broad categories: Repurposing an industrial building, repurposing a school or place of worship, partnering with a developer for a library combined with affordable housing, using a retail storefront, and purchasing open land.
-
In addition to physical and digital library materials, the Library will provide community resources such as meeting space, Wi-Fi, computer access, programs and events, and more. JCPL will conduct facilitated community engagement in early 2025 to give the public an opportunity to provide feedback on desired library services, resources and design.
-
This location is conveniently located adjacent to major thoroughfares and on errand routes. Other government services, including a post office, Jefferson County government offices, and a DMV location are located nearby. Â
The building is along the RTD Flex Ride route, which provides scheduled public transportation service six days a week.Â
