South County Library Project
Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is embarking on an ambitious plan to open a new Library destination in the southern region of Jefferson County to provide greater access to resources, information, and opportunities for every generation.
Project Updates
In August 2024, the JCPL Board of Trustees authorized a Purchase and Sale agreement for an existing property to be used for the new South County Library. The property is located at 11100 Bradford Road in Littleton.
JCPL is now in the due diligence process, during which time we’ll complete steps such as an appraisal, entitlements, inspections, investigation of governmental requirements, environmental reports, and initial community engagement efforts.
The purchase price agreed to in the Purchase and Sale Agreement is $11 million. This project is fully funded thanks to the fiscal stewardship of the Board of Trustees and the taxpayers of Jefferson County.
The South County Library Advisory Council continues to meet and provide JCPL with feedback on the project development. The group, formed in December 2023, has helped to guide our search for an additional library location for South Jefferson County, recommend key messages and more.
There will be numerous community engagement opportunities in the coming months for all community members to help guide this important project. JCPL is very early in this process and a more detailed timeline will be provided soon.
For now, we hope to hear feedback on the potential location. Please email us at southcountyproject@jeffcolibrary.org, find us at an event in the area or join an upcoming board meeting to provide public comment.

Site criteria, which included size, location, convenience, technical requirements, and sustainability and stewardship, were all exceeded with this site. In addition, the location has an intuitive entryway and parking, potential for outdoor spaces, is adjacent to major thoroughfares, and is near other government services.

JCPL’s site search process encompassed several routes for finding and exploring sites, including JCPL driving tours of the area, working with a commercial realtor, pursuing suggestions from the community and advisory council, conversations with community stakeholders, reviewing Jeffco school closures, and pursuing opportunities for partnerships and sites that were not on the market.
JCPL considered 50 properties within five broad categories: Repurposing an industrial building, repurposing a school or place of worship, partnering with a developer for a library combined with affordable housing, using a retail storefront, and purchasing open land.

In addition to physical and digital library materials, the Library will provide community resources such as meeting space, Wi-Fi, computer access, programs and events, and more. JCPL will conduct facilitated community engagement in early 2025 to give the public an opportunity to provide feedback on desired library services, resources and design.

This location is conveniently located adjacent to major thoroughfares and on errand routes. Other government services, including a post office, Jefferson County government offices, and a DMV location are located nearby.
