Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) will be removing music CDs from our collection at all locations on July 15. Over time, we have observed the usage of CDs steadily declining, while the demand for other items and resources has grown. This change will free up our finite space and resources to better serve more patrons.
We understand that some people will be disappointed with this change. We are here to help you find alternatives to continue enjoying your favorite tunes:
- Free music streaming is available through Hoopla and Freegal Music+.
- Want help setting up streaming on your device? Stop by one of our Technology Help Sessions or Book a Librarian and our staff will help you get set up!
- Physical music CDs can still be placed on hold through Prospector and Interlibrary Loan.
Patrons can continue to check out CDs as normal before July 15. Once they have been removed from the collection, CDs will be sent to Jefferson County Library Foundation to be sold at Whale’s Tale Books & Gifts store or the annual Whale of a Used Book Sale. The proceeds will support JCPL programs and services.
This change does not impact physical audiobooks, DVDs or other materials that continue to be checked out frequently at all JCPL locations. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we make this change. Contact us if you have further questions or would like assistance with alternatives to Music CDs.
