General Questions
To keep your library account secure, you can log into your Jeffco Library account on only one device at a time. If you are logged in on one device and then log in somewhere else, your first session will be logged out automatically. This includes the My JCPL mobile app. If you have logged in on your computer and then open the app, you will be logged out on your computer automatically.
From the home screen, tap the card icon in the upper right-hand corner.
It usually means we don’t have that specific edition of the title in our collection. Each edition of a title has a unique ISBN, so search by title to be sure.
You can add and access multiple library cards from the My Library Cards screen, which can be accessed by tapping on the card icon near the top right. Add a library card number by tapping on the ‘Add card’ button and logging in with that account.
To switch between accounts, tap on the card icon near the top right (My Library Cards), then swipe left or right to move between library cards. When you see the card you want to use, tap in the circle next to Use This Card.
A maximum of 8 library cards can be added to the app, and cards must be added to the app on each device separately. Logging out of the app will not remove cards, but uninstalling the app, or clearing phone cache, will remove all stored cards.
No, but all those options remain available from our mobile website via a browser on your device.
Yes. Since searching our collection and using My Account both require real-time communication with the catalog, the app does require Wi-Fi or a data connection.

Checking Out
Open the app and then tap on the shopping cart icon at the top of the home screen. Point your phone’s camera at the JCPL barcode sticker. Select Check Out Item (you can also add something to your For Later Shelf) and then either continue checking out, or tap Finish.
If you prefer, you can type the barcode number in using the keyboard option on the checkout screen.
There may be a bit of a delay between something being checked out and its status changing in your Holds list. Sometimes closing out of the app and opening it back up will force your account to refresh.
Checking out non-JCPL barcodes is not currently possible. If you try to check out with a Prospector/ILL barcode, you will see an error message that says, “Cannot identify this item, see a Jefferson County Public Library staff member for help.”
MyJCPL barcode checkout will work with most devices with a camera. Currently, the compatibility standards for the app are Apple devices running an iOS 16.0 or later or an Android device running 9.0 or later.
If you are experiencing issues with the MyJCPL app, please let a staff member know and provide the following information:
- Your Library card number and PIN
- The device being used (iPhone X, Samsung Tablet, Android, etc)
- The barcode number of the item with the error
