Make your mark on history…

Celebrate the passage of time this fall with the 2018 Golden Time Capsule Project

In collaboration with the Golden History Museum & Park and City of Golden, the Golden Library celebrates the City’s past, present and future this fall with a 2018 time capsule.

Remarkably, the 2018-capsule is the third to be filled by the City of Golden over a 100-year span. The first was filled after Nov. 11, 1918, marking the end of World War I and the City's hearty celebrations for Armistice Day (Learn more about this occasion from Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection). Special instructions were left for residents to uncover it 50 years later. Dutifully, on Nov. 11, 1968, the time capsule was unearthed, with the people of Golden carrying on the tradition, filling a new one and passing the mantle to future generations to archive. Now, 50 years later, on Sunday, Nov. 11, the City of Golden prepares to unveil this second capsule.

The special day will be marked by 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day celebrations, special events and activities, and even free admission to the Golden History Museum, where a new capsule will be filled!

You and your family can be a part of this historic moment by submitting digital contributions to the 2018-capsule. Consider ideas that represent our current time, perhaps a letter to the future, describing what life is like for you in Golden; reviews of your favorite movies, books or music; scanned photos of your family, friends and favorite places; or even predictions for the future...what do you think life -- or the Library -- might be like in 50 years?

Submit your addition to the 2018-capsule by Nov. 5. Submissions can be dropped off in person to Stephanie Douglas at the Golden Library or digitally through the form below. Contact Stephanie with any questions.
