Let the Adventure Begin! It’s the Library Summer Challenge 2024

Discover a new adventure June 1 - July 31

Registration for the Library Summer Challenge is now open!

Where Adventure Begins, this year's Summer Challenge theme, runs from June 1 through July 31. And for the first time this year, you will receive a free book when you register to start that adventure today! People of all ages are invited to participate in the exploration this summer by reading, participating in activities and attending events. Log your reading and activities progress starting June 1 to earn prizes and help your community!

If you participated in last year's program, sign in using your previous account. If this is your first time, create a new account for yourself or your family.

The Library Summer Challenge helps to combat the "Summer Slide," a phenomenon of unlearning and stagnation kids face when school is out. Students can lose as much as 25 to 30 percent of what they've learned during summer break. Reading and completing activities keeps learners of all ages mentally engaged all summer long!

You can earn great prizes as you log your reading and complete all kinds of activities that count toward the Finisher goal of earning 500 points. Check out the awesome prizes available to babies, kids, teens and adults!

Track your progress by downloading the Beanstack mobile app or pick up a paper tracker at any staffed JCPL location. You can find dozens of activity suggestions on the mobile app or the lineup of great summer events on our website! Continue the fun by posting some of the things you've learned or done during the Library Summer Challenge on social media. Just be sure to tag JCPL so we can see your progress!

The school contest also begins June 1, and this year, things are just a little different! When you register for the Library Summer Challenge, select the school you or your child will be attending. Then, as your kids log their reading and activities, the points will automatically count toward the school competition! Starting this year, any school that shows improvement in their Challenge Finisher rates will be included in a drawing for their category's $800 Literary Improvement Prize. For more information about this year's updated rules, check out our updated School Contest page.

Find your sense of adventure this summer and start logging your reading hours and activities to earn great prizes!
