Celebrate 1000 Books Before Kindergarten!

Discover the fun this fall at each Library location

Whether you’ve just finished 1000 Books or you’re ready to start the program, we invite you to attend Jefferson County Public Library’s line up of special parties and events this September and October.

Silliness is guaranteed as you sing, dance, celebrate and play along to the Hunk-Ta-Bunk-Ta Show, Super Stolie’s Music Show and/or ¡Super Stolie Guacamole! To celebrate our youngest readers, each location also adds their own flair, like crafts, community art projects, cupcakes, bubbles and more!

"The fall programs will be a great opportunity to celebrate our patrons who have worked so hard to get to 1000 Books, and those who are on their way," said Jennifer French, kids and families librarian at the Lakewood Library. "I adore the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program because it encourages adults to read to their young kids. I especially love the pride on patrons' faces when they complete their [book tracker]."

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a nationwide challenge to read, you guessed it, 1000 books with your little one before they start kindergarten .And it's easier than you think! Read books every day! When you read with your child, you fire up their little brains and get them ready to talk, read, write and learn all on their own and just in time for school!

"Learning to read begins at birth. One of the best ways to raise a reader is to share books together at home. JCPL wants to make this easy and fun!" says Robyn Lupa, kids and families coordinator. "Our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten encourages exploring and talking about books -- and get prizes and motivation while doing so. All books count, even reading the same book over and over!"

As Robyn said, at JCPL, we’re in the business of raising readers, and 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is an awesome way for caregivers to start. We have everything you need to make your journey to 1000 Books fun, easy and rewarding.  Earn badges and stickers for each milestone you complete. Get a book bag after reading 500 books and choose a hardcover book after reading 1000. Mix up your reading routine with exciting new titles through our weekly lists. Discover a community of fellow caregivers and readers at Story Times.  Enroll your child and create life-long positive memories with books!

"My four-year-old son joined the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program this past October and just finished [in February]. I thought it was a wonderful idea, and it was incredibly motivating for him," said one Arvada mom. "We loved every minute and shared many wonderful memories. When he was awarded his book, he was over the moon."

Help your child learn in their early years! It’s simple. Read, talk, sing, write, play and laugh together every day. Start by signing up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten and celebrating early readers with us this fall!
