Bernadette Berger named Director of Information Technology at Jefferson County Public Library

Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) announced today that Bernadette Berger joined JCPL as IT Director, effective August 20.

“We are pleased to welcome Bernadette to the JCPL team,” said Donna Walker, incoming executive director, JCPL. “She brings deep IT experience, solid technology skills, a love of libraries and a can-do attitude that will serve us well as we work to become a best-in-class library.”

Berger comes to JCPL from Jefferson County Public Health, where she served for 18 years in various capacities with increasing management responsibilities. Most recently, she served as Supervisor of Systems Administration and Security Office, where she led IT initiatives for Public Health, developed IT policies, plans and budgets, managed the IT department’s incident response capability, contributed to strategic planning at the County level, oversaw the Vital Records department and supervised 12 employees. From 2002 to 2011, Berger also taught masters-level information technology courses at Regis University. She holds a bachelor-of-arts degree in speech communications from Colorado State University and a Master’s degree in Computer Information Technology from Regis University.

At JCPL, Berger will ensure that Library patrons and staff have equal access to electronic information utilizing progressive technology, and that the Library operates smoothly while developing and aligning to 21st-century library operations. She sits as a member of the Library’s senior management team and contributes to the overall planning, policy creation, budgeting, direction, and delivery of the library’s work plan and current and long-range plans. She is accountable for the direction, planning and operation of JCPL’s Information Technology department, which includes responsibility and oversight of computer services and applications, systems, networks, security and communications for library locations and administration. She sets the vision and goals for the Library’s technological efforts, implementations and research, and supervises the work of the Information Technology staff.
