When Library buildings closed in March, we wanted renewing your library items to be one less thing you needed to worry about. So we extended all due dates and asked you to keep materials at home until we had a safe way to manage returns again.
Starting July 1, Library due dates are back and so is our auto-renewal system. We’ll automatically renew your eligible items, so you don’t have to worry about them! Items that do not automatically renew will need to be returned, and the Date Due Courtesy Notice will include the item due date(s).
Items ineligible for auto-renewal include:
- Items with holds
- Items already renewed the maximum number of times
- Lucky Day items
- Magazines
- Hotspots
- Launchpads
- Digital items like downloadable audiobooks, e-books and streaming media (although many of our vendors do allow one renewal, but it must be initiated by you)
- Interlibrary loans (will only renew with the approval from the lending library, and you must initiate that request)
- Prospector loans (one renewal allowable in Prospector that needs to be initiated by you)
Temporarily, eligible material will be renewed up to 12 times, rather than the normal six times. This will give you the opportunity to keep some materials at home for longer, while still making high-demand items available to those who are waiting.
If you get a Date Due Courtesy Notice right after you’ve returned an item, please don’t worry. All items will remain in quarantine for at least 72 hours before being checked in and some items may still show on your account for slightly longer. JCPL no longer charges late fines for overdue materials. Materials borrowed through Interlibrary loan may be subject to overdue fines from the loaning library.
