#Hamilfans gather to celebrate history in hip-hop style

Are you a #Hamilfan? Fans of the smash Broadway musical are in for a treat on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when Jefferson County Public Library teams up with Rocky Mountain PBS and Green Mountain High School’s Performing Arts Academy to present a sneak preview portion of the PBS documentary, Great Performances: Hamilton’s America. (#HamilDocPBS) The documentary takes you behind the scenes at the creation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical, Hamilton.

Hamilton is celebrated for re-engaging American youth as it redefines the way in which an entire generation learns about history through hip-hop. The documentary takes viewers along for the ride as cast members visit historic locations and hear interviews with prominent personalities like Jimmy Fallon and President Barack Obama. It’s part of The PBS Fall Arts Festival which is hosted by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The Teen Advisory Board at Belmar Library initiated the event, recognizing the pop-culture phenomenon’s popularity with their peers. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy high school performances of songs from the show before they watch of the documentary preview.

The event is FREE and open to the public, but reservations are recommended.
