Arvada Library Redesign
The Arvada Library is located within the Olde Town Arvada historic district, adjacent to Olde Town Square. It measures approximately 34,200 square feet and was opened in 2006. Since then, it has experienced an increase in number of patrons, program attendance and service requirements.
A redesign of the Arvada Library is one of the projects in Jefferson County Public Library’s 2024 Strategic Plan, opens a new window to expand services to meet the needs of the community. The project vision is to redesign this urban/suburban library to reach more people, focus on building literacies and be the third place in this community. In this project, we hope to:
- Redesign the library to align with future service and community needs and foster increased circulation, computer use and availability.
- Expand outreach to a wider audience by boosting Library card sign-ups and enhancing market engagement.
- Establish the Arvada Library as the community's primary third place, providing collaborative areas for conversation and discovery, including a heightened occupancy of study and meeting rooms.
- Implement modern security systems and design to enhance overall safety.
- Audit the library's redesign for compatibility with the vision outlined in the Olde Town Reinvestment Plan.
Project Updates
Construction is Underway
Arvada Library, which closed on January 7, is officially under construction. It is currently in the demolition phase. In this stage, flooring, walls and fixtures are being removed to make room for the new design. This exciting milestone brings us one step closer to opening the redesigned library next year!
Alternative Services
The Arvada Balsam Temporary Library opened on January 17 to continue providing services to the Arvada community during construction. Visitors can check out and return books and DVDs, pick up holds, use computers and Wi-Fi, attend programs and more.
The Arvada Balsam Temporary Library location includes ample parking around the building that can be accessed via Balsam Street or W. 57th Avenue. The building is accessible via an ADA-compliant ramp directly to the left of the stairs when facing the main entrance. This location also has curbside services, a newly added bike rack and plenty of parking spaces.

FAQs
-
Like other location redesigns, JCPL is seeking to improve space efficiency and flow, align with future service and community needs, foster increased circulation and provide collaborative areas for conversation and discovery. This includes a increased occupancy of study and meeting rooms and implementation of modern security systems and design to enhance overall safety.
Community and stakeholder feedback, along with the program of service, helped inform the layout and future services of the redesigned library.
-
In 2024, JCPL conducted robust community engagement efforts to gather a comprehensive understanding of their wants and needs. Along with outreach to current Arvada Library patrons, we reached out through a wide variety of communications channels including print, digital, social media, radio and more! We engaged with 1,158 total participants. Engagement and outreach materials were made available in both English and Spanish.
You can find the results of these efforts in the Community Engagement Report (PDF), opens a new window.
