Evergreen Library Redesign
Evergreen Library is a 17,367square-foot library constructed in 1993 and nestled into the hillside just south of Historic Downtown Evergreen. In 2022, we started planning and preparing for a major redesign of the location.
Our vision for the Evergreen Library Redesign Project has always been for an updated library that is welcoming to all, where the patron experience is one of absolute delight, and where residents feel respected and understood by the library. We also wanted to align the redesign with our mission and vision of designing libraries of the future, while upgrading and modernizing resources, spaces, technology, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems in the building.
Project Updates
Evergreen Library is open again for services, including collection browsing, holds pick up, meeting and study room reservations, technology bookings and more!
The newly redesigned Evergreen Library is warm, cozy, light, natural, welcoming, rustic and comfortable.
- True to the mountain spirit, natural materials, ample light and open views were incorporated into the design for both aesthetics and to ensure the movement of natural light.
- Dedicated spaces for children, teens and families, as well as study rooms and a flexible community room.
- Sustainability is front and center with low-energy lighting, a high-efficiency boiler and water-saving plumbing fixtures.
- Three Dual Port Electric Vehicle Charging stations were installed with partner funds from the Colorado Department of Energy and Xcel Energy.
- Little details were not overlooked as local art takes center stage with adult, teen and children's art display areas.
The Evergreen Redesign Project was led by Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA). EUA’s portfolio of work includes the renovation of the Columbine Library and other local Library systems' locations, such as the 21c Library in Colorado Springs. Two leading experts in educational and community-forward design, Kelly Wemple and Ryan Wallace, are the Project Leads.

Project Partners
The extent of the redesign would not be possible without the generosity of our donors. Library volunteers and donors enhance the facilities and services we can provide the community. Sincere thanks to our Evergreen Library donors:
- The Naumer Family, for their contribution to the Quiet Reading Room
- Cynthia and Bob Benson for graciously giving to the Children’s Area
- Library volunteer, Jeannie Mann, for the generous donation to the Storytime Area
- Jefferson County Library Foundation, for their generous support of the large study room
- Jimmy Haver, in support of the self-service kiosk in the Children's area
