Guidelines for Self-Published, Small Press and Local Authors
Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) primarily purchases books published by commercial publishers that fit the library’s Collection Development Policy. JCPL recognizes the growth of self-published, indie and small press titles, some of which we may want to acquire. As a Colorado library, we will give preference to Colorado-based authors. As with all items selected for JCPL’s collection, books must meet the selection criteria within the Collection Development Policy
Authors may donate a copy of their book to JCPL for consideration. If the book meets our general selection criteria contained with our Collection Development Policy, it will be cataloged and added to the collection.
If an author does not wish to donate a copy of their book but would like the title reviewed for purchase, they may use the Suggest a Purchase form on JCPL’s website.
Authors may drop off their donated work at their preferred JCPL location or mail it to the following address. Please submit one copy only.

Wheat Ridge, CO 80033
All author donations added to the collection are subject to the same collection maintenance procedures that apply to all other library materials.
Donations not selected for JCPL will not be returned. Any donations not added to the collection will be repurposed: resold, recycled, or put to other uses.
E-book titles must be available through our established e-book partner Libby by Overdrive to be considered. Jefferson County Public Library does not have the ability to host e-books on our technology platforms. If an author’s title is not available through our e-book partner, they may submit their title for consideration through BiblioBoard.
Please note that due to staffing and time constraints, we cannot meet with authors or inform them of their submissions' status. Authors may check our catalog at jeffcolibrary.org at any time to see if their book(s) are listed.
