Library knitting and textile groups team up with charity organizations to mobilize the power of community and help those in need.
Standley Lake Library's Yarn and Needle Arts Group annual community charity drive is on, and this year, they're teaming up with All In Empowering Futures, opens a new window — a nonprofit that helps people transitioning from foster care to adulthood — for a season of giving that promises to warm hearts and make a difference in our community.
Charity Drive Details
- Duration: Oct. 2 through Dec. 4
-
Collection Items:
- Knitted and homemade items or store-bought (no wool due to possible allergies): hats, scarves, cowls, shawls, socks, gloves/hand warmers/mittens, lap blankets, washcloths, soap sacks (with bar soap), blankets/quilts, stuffed animals
- $20 gift cards: King Soopers, Safeway, Target, VISA, Walmart
- Store-bought items: Feminine hygiene products, hand soap and hand towels, small tool kit, small first aid kit, flashlight
How Can You Get Involved?
- Craft for a Cause: Whether you're a knitting master, crochet enthusiast or sewing expert, use your skills to create these items yourself. Visit the Standley Lake Library starting Oct. 4 to pick up knitting and sewing patterns to inspire your creations.
- Donate to Make a Difference: You can still make a significant impact by purchasing any of the listed items and donating them. A collection box will be located at Standley Lake's entrance for drop-off. And for the first time, the charity we are supporting is asking for donations of gift cards for clothing, gas, groceries and laundry in addition to the other items.
Drive Close and Collection
Following the conclusion of the charity drive, all the collected items will be showcased on Dec. 4, coinciding with the Yarn and Needle Arts monthly meeting. All In Empowering Futures will be on hand to gather these contributions, ensuring they are given to those who need them most.
Your Knitting Moves the Needle
In partnership with All In Empower Futures, we are enthusiastic about joining forces to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those less fortunate, especially as winter approaches.
