Restrooms at Lakewood Library to get an Upgrade

We are excited to announce that plans are underway to renovate Lakewood Library's public restrooms, as well as those in the Administration wing of the building. As part of JCPL's strategy to provide a radically welcoming user experience in all our facilities, the restrooms are being remodeled to enhance accessibility, safety and hygiene, as well as the environmental sustainability of the building. The new, gender-neutral restroom facilities will provide equitable access and better service to all users.

The renovation will include the installation of ADA-compliant fixtures, doorways and pathways wide enough for mobility devices, energy-efficient lighting and temperature controls, smart technologies to reduce touchpoints and ventilation systems that will improve air quality.

When will the construction begin?

The remodel will start at the end of September and will take approximately 14 weeks to complete, starting with the restrooms in the Administration wing of the building. During construction, one restroom area will remain open for all building occupants. Clear signage and instructions will be posted to help facilitate this temporary change.

Patrons will see minimal impact during the administration portion of this project. Once construction begins on the public restrooms, extensive signage will be posted to direct patrons to restroom facilities.

Will Lakewood be closed during the renovations?

Both Lakewood Library and the Administrative offices will remain open as we implement the project. While our services will continue uninterrupted, we do anticipate some disruptions. In addition to signage, our staff will be on hand to help guide patrons during this period.

Kindly bear with us as we aim to make our building better for you!
