Install Adobe Digital Editions
- Download and install Adobe Digital Editions (www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions) on your computer. Follow prompts to complete installation.
- When the “Setup Assistant” displays, click Continue.
- Click Get an Adobe ID online.
- Your internet browser will open. Click Create an Adobe ID account.
- Follow the prompts and click Continue.
- Go back to the Adobe Setup window and enter your Adobe ID and password. Click Activate and Finished.
Using the Libby App Website (preferred method for new users)
- Go to our Libby app website: libbyapp.com.
- Follow the prompts to find Jefferson County Public Library and sign in with your library card.
- Use the building icon to browse featured titles and categories. Use the magnifying glass icon to search by title, author or keyword.
- When you find an available title, click Borrow, then Borrow again.
- Click Go to Shelf. (To get to Shelf otherwise, tap the stacked books icon, then loans.)
- Click "Read With...." next to the title's cover, then Other Options.
- Select EPUB, and the file will download. Find the download and click open. It should open in Adobe Digital Editions.
- Connect your reader to your computer.
- In Adobe Digital Editions, click the Library View button.
- Your reader should appear in the navigation on the left.
- Click and drag the book to your device.
- Books should be in My Documents. Safely eject your e-reader.
Using the OverDrive Website
- Go to our OverDrive collection: jefferson.overdrive.com
- Click Sign in (top right), then enter your library card number.
- Browse or use the search box to search for title, author, or keyword.
- Use the Ebooks filter on the left side of the page to limit to EPUB format.
- When you find an available title, click Borrow, then Borrow again.
- Click My Account and then Loans.
- Click Download EPUB e-book.
- Select Open if given the choice between Open or Save. Downloaded e-books should open in Adobe Digital Editions.
- Connect your reader to your computer.
- In Adobe Digital Editions, click the Library View button.
- Your reader should appear in the navigation on the left.
- Click and drag the book to your device.
- Books should be in My Documents. Safely eject your e-reader.
Early return and renewing
- Early return: In Adobe Digital Editions, select the title you would like to return and right click. Select Return Borrowed Item, then click Return. (Items are automatically returned on their due date and there are no late fees.)
- If a title does not have holds, a Renew button will appear next to your Loans in your OverDrive or Libby account three days before it expires.
- You may check out up to 99 titles at a time, and have 70 items on hold. You have three days to check out a hold once it becomes available for you. You can also suspend the hold by selecting "deliver later," or you can cancel your hold.
Special instructions for Nook Glowlight Plus or Nook Color:
- Instead of clicking and dragging in Adobe Digital Editions, right-click the e-book in ADE and click Show File in Explorer (Windows) or Show File in Finder (Mac).
- Drag the e-book file from the folder that opens to the My Files folder of your NOOK. Your NOOK will appear as a removable device in the left-hand side of the Explorer or Finder window.
- Find the newly transferred e-book on your NOOK under Library > My Files.
Special instructions for Nook GlowLight 3 and GlowLight Plus 7.8":
- Connect your Nook to your computer.
- Open Adobe Digital Editions. (You may need to tap “Turn On” on your Nook screen for the device to be recognized by ADE. If Windows File Explorer opens when you “turn on” the Nook, close the Explorer window.)
- Click and drag the book to your Nook.
- Tap on the Gear icon next to “Devices” and click on “Authorize” to authorize the device with your ADE account.
- Eject your Nook from your computer.
- You must now add your Adobe ID credentials to your Nook.
- Tap the upper right corner of the status bar to open Quick settings and tap on “See All Settings.”
- Open “My Account.”
- Tap “Adobe DRM Setting” (You will see your email & ADE ID number listed under “Authorized Adobe IDs, but you still need to add your password in the next step.)
- Tap on “Add Adobe ID” and enter your Adobe ID (email) and password.
