Long Man by Amy Greene Selected for 2014 Golden Reads

Author to Visit Golden in September

(Lakewood, Colo. – July 15, 2014) Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is proud to present Long Man by Amy Greene as this year’s Golden Reads selection. Golden Mayor Marjorie Sloan chose Long Man from a number of titles.

The Golden Library will host An Evening with Amy Greene at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the American Mountaineering Center, 710 W. 10th St., Golden, Colo. Guests will hear a reading from Long Man by Greene, and will have the opportunity to ask questions of the author and have their books signed. Books will be available for purchase at the event from the Boulder Bookstore.

"I'm so honored that Golden has chosen Long Man, so moved that your community will unite to read my book about a community divided and lost to progress,” said Greene. “I'm grateful, too, for the chance to visit a mountain town thousands of miles from my own in the foothills of East Tennessee, no doubt different than my home in many ways, but much the same in others. September can't come soon enough for me."

Online reservations for the reading and book signing can be made at jeffcolibrary.org/goldenreads. Additionally, the Library will be holding a drawing for a patron and a guest to join Greene and others for dinner prior to the event.

“I was flattered when I was asked to choose this year’s Golden Reads selection,” said Mayor Sloan. “Although Long Man takes place in a time and place far removed from Golden, I think our residents will be able to identify with the wonderful characters and find many conversation points that are still relevant today.”

Prior to the reading and book signing, guests can sample food from Still Smokin Fusion BBQ and the Bakin’ Bakery. The festivities will take place outside the American Mountaineering Center on 10th St. beginning at 5 p.m.

In addition to Greene’s book reading, the Golden Library will feature Long Man as the September selection for its monthly Book Discussion Group. The group is open to anyone and meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the Golden Library. Or, follow the conversation online: #goldenreads.

“We are excited to read Long Man with our community,” said Carroll Mannino, Golden Library manager. “Amy Greene is a very talented author, whose ability to draw you in and make you feel as if you are part of the character’s struggle will resonate with readers of all types.”

Golden Reads promotes a culture of reading and brings the community together through a shared reading experience. This is the third year for this program (formerly One Book. 1 Golden.). Previous selections included Benediction by Kent Haruf (2013) and Growing Up True by Craig Barnes (2012).

Golden Reads is presented in partnership with the City of Golden, Golden Civic Foundation, and the Golden Hotel.
