(Lakewood, Colo. – Sept. 30, 2013) Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) announced today that it is partnering with Jefferson County Human Services to assist area residents with seeking affordable health care coverage under the new Affordable Health Care Act.
Area residents who do not qualify for Medicaid may be able to get financial assistance to buy insurance through the Connect for Health Colorado Marketplace. Beginning Oct. 1, Coloradans will be able to use the Marketplace to shop for private health insurance plans and find out if they qualify for new financial assistance to lower their health care costs. For example, an individual earning $1,250 to $3,800 a month, or a family of four earning about $2,600 to $7,800 a month, may qualify for financial assistance. Coverage can start as early as January 2014.
“We’re pleased to offer this valuable service to the community,” said Donna Walker, director of public services, JCPL. “We know that understanding the individual impacts of the Affordable Health Care Act in Colorado can be daunting, and now, thanks to this partnership, we’ll be able to help patrons and others understand what it means for their individual situations.”
Beginning Oct. 1, JCPL’s Belmar Library will serve as a Connect for Health Colorado Certified Assistance Site, where residents can meet with a Certified Health Coverage Guide, trained by Connect for Health Colorado and provided by Jefferson County Human Services. Health Coverage Guides provide fair and impartial information and services that help customers complete the application process to purchase health insurance through Connect for Health Colorado. Health Coverage Guides also are responsible for educating customers about available coverage options, tax credits and cost sharing programs – and how to prioritize, filter and sort their options to meet their unique needs.
Personal assistance will be offered at the following dates and times:
