The wheels on the bus(es) go round and round and round to bring interactive farm-to-table programming to Jefferson County

Summer boredom kicking in? How about visiting an interactive orchard, café, or grocery market when Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) hosts the travelling children’s museum, Spark City Bus, this summer.

JCPL is collaborating with the Spark City Children’s Museum to bring The Spark City Bus and its interactive farm-to-table role-play activities to the Library.

Upcoming stops include visits to the JCPL Bookmobile’s stop at the Ken Caryl Safeway and the Standley Lake Library.

“Kids are having fun learning about how things grow,” said Peg Hooper, public services manager for the Standley Lake Library. “They get to ‘pick’ vegetables, weigh them, pretend to cook dinner and eat. Then, they plant a seed and take it home! Very cool.”

“Roleplaying teaches young children valuable social and emotional skills, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, gross and fine-motor skills, and science, math and art skills through play,” said Katherine Broome of Spark City. The Library continues the learning with children’s books, videos and other activities.

The program is ideal for children between the ages of two and five and supports the Library’s efforts to help every child in Jefferson County learn to read.
