Seeking the next teen Picasso

Many of the world’s most famous artists completed their first masterpiece as teenagers. Bansky, known for his often politically inspired “guerrilla” street art, began his career as a graffiti artist during his late teens. Mexican self-portrait artist, Frida Kahlo, began her art career in her late teens after she began painting after being bedridden following a serious bus crash. Spanish artist and Surrealist icon Salvador Dali was encouraged to practice his art from an early age. He was 16 when he travelled to Paris and began interacting with artists such as Picasso.

These are just a few of the artists serving as inspiration to some of Jefferson County’s teenage artists and Jefferson County Public Library is seeking their art to display in a Teen Art Exhibit running at the Belmar Library in August.

Art in a variety of artistic styles and methods created by teens, ages 12 to 18, is being curated by the Belmar Teen Advisory Board members to be shown in a Teen Art Exhibit at Belmar Library in August.
