Jefferson County Public Library Selects HDR to Assist with Belmar Library Remodel

Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is gearing up for a major remodel of the Belmar Library, planned for 2019. First opened in 2000, the Belmar Library was last updated in 2007. It's due for a major refresh to reflect new trends in library service, make better use of available space and update furnishings and fixtures.

This project is now underway. On September 21, the Library Board of Trustees approved a contract with HDR, a global engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services firm, to provide design services for the upcoming remodel.

Under terms of the contract, HDR will assist JCPL with gathering community input on the remodel and delivering a schematic design with preliminary budget figures.

“HDR has had a strong presence in the Denver community for more than 50 years,” said Donna Walker, executive director, JCPL. “With three offices and 383 employee-owners in Metro Denver, they bring deep experience in delivering inspired designs to civic, community, and higher-education projects.”

“Julianne Scherer, the HDR principal on the Belmar project has 24 years of experience on projects ranging from K-12 independent schools to public libraries and universities and has built an impressive track record of accomplishments,” Walker added. “We look forward to working with her and the HDR team to make the Belmar Library all that it can be.”

HDR was selected through a competitive bidding process.  Ten firms responded to JCPL’s Request for Proposals; firms were evaluated based on price, ability to meet JCPL’s needs, experience and references.

Design services will begin this this fall, with construction planned for the spring of 2019. JCPL will partner with HDR to solicit community input on feedback on proposed designs prior to construction. Watch for project updates at jeffcolibrary.org/locations/Belmar-remodel., opens a new window
