Jefferson County Public Library Launches Summer Reading Program June 1

Jeffco Residents Challenged to Read 40 Million Minutes

Read. Log minutes. Win prizes. Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) launches its annual summer reading program throughout the county on Friday, June 1, and all Jefferson County residents, from zero to 104+, are invited to participate. Throughout the program, participants will find prizes, fun contests, and exciting events at 10 library locations and the Bookmobile.

This year, JCPL challenges the community to read a collective 40 million minutes by the end of the program on July 31. Everyone benefits from reading by keeping their minds active, and JCPL’s goal is to help young children build their reading, speaking and writing skills, to help kids and teens maintain or improve their reading levels, and to help adults relax and learn new things.

Foothills Animal Shelter is a beneficiary of Summer Reading, and when the 40 million minute mark is met, the shelter will receive a $500 reward from the Jefferson County Library Foundation. JCPL is also continuing its Summer Reading School Contest, awarding $800 to five Jeffco Public Schools with the highest percentage of finishers in their respective categories (preschool/head start; elementary; middle; high; charter/option/special).

People can register now online or in any Jefferson County library location or the Bookmobile. Beginning June 1, they can track and log minutes to win prizes. Prizes are available for all ages, including brand new books, free Chipotle meals, Elitch Gardens Theme Park tickets, Lakeside Amusement Park tickets, shaker eggs, book bags, a chance to win a photography portrait package, and a chance to win movie prize packs (prizes are dependent on participant’s age).

Special thanks to our sponsors and partners for their support of Summer Reading!
