Jefferson County Public Library brings free music downloads and streaming to Jeffco

Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) has joined thousands of public libraries around the world by subscribing to The Freegal® Music Service from Library Ideas, LLC.

JCPL cardholders can now download and stream a select number of MP3-formatted tracks each month at no direct cost to them, paid for by the library’s subscription.

The Freegal® Music service allows patrons to access a collection spanning over 15 million songs, music videos and audiobooks from more than 40,000 music labels worldwide including Sony Music, Epic, RCA, and Columbia. Freegal® Music also offers a completely rebuilt mobile app and website that utilizes modern application practices to ensure an easy-to-use and enjoyable experience. The free application is available for library cardholders and can be downloaded in the Apple® App Store and Google® Play.

“Freegal® is kind of like Spotify® or Apple® Music—where you can create playlists and stream music,” says Debbi Mikash, JCPL’s collection manager. “Patrons will find that Freegal® Music helps them discover new artists and songs, and take advantage of library curated playlists!”

“We have been waiting a long time for a service like this that delivers great music, compatibility with lots of devices and simplicity of use,” says Donna Walker, JCPL executive director. “We think this will be incredibly popular with our patrons since it makes music accessible to all.”
