Get Inspired. Get Creating.

Belmar Library hosts Community Creation events during INSPIRE Arts Week 2018

Inspiration is all around us – or so attendees of INSPIRE Arts Week learn during the 11-day annual event in Lakewood (Thursday, May 31 – Sunday, June 10). The community arts festival features over 40 free and discounted arts and cultural events, including gallery openings, activities, classes and performances for the whole family. Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is one of the 17 Lakewood partner organizations to present these signature events throughout the week.

On Thursday, May 31, unleash your creativity at “Community Creation: Window Murals” at the Belmar Library. Color, draw and add your own creative flair to the window mural. All ages are welcome to participate, whether you are just passing by or investing an afternoon for this fun, community exhibition.

Starting the same day, continue your “Community Creation” with Belmar Library’s “Poetry Wall” event. Anyone can be a poet! Decorate the giant Velcro poetry wall outside the library with pre-printed word cards and art supplies. Watch powerful poetry unfold as participants arrange and rearrange words throughout the week.

INSPIRE Arts Week was born from a community visioning process in 2010. JCPL excitedly participates in the community gathering each year as it draws attention to the rich and vibrant arts and cultural scene present in Lakewood. In 2016, INSPIRE Arts Week was named “Best Event” in the large community category of the Governor’s Awards for Downtown Excellence.
