Ask Experts and Community Members about Vaccine at Q&A

After nearly a full year of operating in pandemic mode, there is light at the end of this COVID-19 tunnel! Jefferson County residents, who are getting the COVID-19 vaccine in stages, can get answers to questions during Q & A panels. The six events, offered in English and Spanish, will be hosted by Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) and Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) There will be three panels in English, and three panels in Spanish.

JCPH met its goal to vaccinate 70 percent of its residents age 70 and older, according to a news release, opens a new window. In addition, effective February 26 at 6 a.m., Jefferson County moved to Level Blue, opens a new window on the state’s Dial 2.0. Under Level Blue, restrictions ease further, with higher capacity limits on restaurants, gyms, group sports, indoor and outdoor events and more. These panels, which provide people with the facts they need, will keep this momentum going!

Common questions about the COVID-19 vaccine that will be addressed in the panel include:

  • Does the vaccine really protect me against COVID-19?
  • Is it safe?
  • Will I experience nausea and illness as side effects? For how long after?
  • How long will my arm hurt after I’m vaccinated?
  • Why should I get the vaccine?
  • Why are others getting it before me?
  • When will it be my turn?

“We have collected more than 50 questions already from community members and our main goal is to share the differences between those myths and facts,” said Pauline Erices, the whole community inclusion program manager at JCPH. “There’s a lot of misinformation out there, and a lot of people don’t have any information yet and don’t even know what to ask.”
