Adults with disabilities rediscover the library through expanded learning and discovery programs

(Lakewood, Colo. – March 10, 2017)  The Library is more than a collection of books. It’s a place where everyone can learn, play and create!  The American Library Association recognizes that people with disabilities are a large part of our community and that many often face limited opportunities, including opportunities to be creative and engage socially.

Would you like a chance to win an iPad mini tablet or a GoPro Hero 5 camera?

Tell us how you use technology in a short online survey. Open to all Jefferson County residents (age 14 and older), the survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete and will provide us with important information about Jefferson County’s unique digital needs. Results from the survey will help us to make smart decisions about our current and future technology offerings.

The survey is open January 17 through February 5. Once the survey closes, we’ll select a winner through a random drawing, and the winner will be notified by Friday, February 10.

Go, girls, go! Golden Library and Colorado School of Mines feature Girls in STEM Competition

(Lakewood, Colo. – January 18, 2017)  Despite concerted efforts for nearly two decades to attract girls and women to the fields of engineering and computing, the numbers haven’t improved. In fact, they’re getting worse. The number of women in computing has fallen from 35% in 1990 to just 26% in 2015, according to a 2015 study by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) - Solving the Equation: The Variables for Women’s Success in Engineering and Computing.

Bringing it home – volunteers bring the world to others through library home delivery

(Lakewood, Colo. – November 21, 2016)

Debbie Burns and her mother, Beulah, have something special to be thankful for this holiday.

At 97 years of age, Beulah Burns of Arvada is aging in place at her home, receiving support from community agencies and from her daughter, Debbie Burns, who calls daily and travels often from her home in Meeker, Colorado to visit.  When an application for Jefferson County Public Library’s (JCPL) Home Service program came with her VOA Meals on Wheels newsletter, Beulah reconnected with her library.

Hot SpotsIt’s no trick! We have a new treat to offer you. Soon you'll be able to place a hold, check out and take home a Wi-Fi Hot Spot. Yes! It’s true.

Today’s families rely on the Internet for many reasons, including student access to online homework and access to the many digital resources made available by the Library. But not everybody has home access.

We have 100 new devices and you can check them out for seven days at a time. We believe these devices will meet a very real demand and supports our mission of making technology accessible to all.

Our mission is to provide equal access to information and opportunity to all the residents of Jefferson County, and when our community voted to support the 2015 mill levy, we became enabled to improve our ability to provide that access to new and emerging technologies and increase digital literacy countywide.  [The crowd cheers!]

In addition to the 100 hot spots, we’ve added ten WiFi enabled tablets that are now in circulation at Edgewater and Wheat Ridge Libraries.

Fall Break Fun

Here comes Thanksgiving week, everybody! The kids are out of school and we’re all excited for the feast. If you’re searching for fun activities to keep the family entertained, look no further than your local Jeffco Library.  This year, in addition to movies, crafts, and special Story Times, we’re under a wizard’s spell. To celebrate the new movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we have a ton of Harry Potter fun in addition to the cornucopia of turkey-themed activities. See what's in store and prepare to gobble it up.
