You love it! Your favorite book, movie, tv show, or musical artist - it doesn’t matter! Here’s your chance to represent your fandom of your favorite anything in a fun and creative manner.
The contest is open for one month and you can submit your project in person to the Lakewood Library's Teen Librarian between June 17 – July 17. You choose the format the best illustrates your fandom. Creative contributions can be in a variety of formats:
- written stories
- visual art
- digital format
Entries will be judged by the Lakewood Library's Teen Advisory Board at the Lakewood Library on July 22, between 6 - 7:30 p.m. The winner will be announced soon after and will receive a $50 Visa gift card. Entrants must be Colorado Residents between 11 - 18 years of age. Please include your telephone number and/or email address with your entry.
It's almost here...the Golden Library is nearly ready to open and we can't wait to show you!
Mark your calendars to attend the Golden Library Grand Reopening.
Sunday, June 14
noon to 5 p.m.
Our staff will be available to showcase features of the Library and you can sign up to join the 1,000,001-minute Summer reading Challenge and receive prizes (while supplies last).
The Library will be open for business on Saturday the 13th, but the ribbon cutting and grand reopening is planned for Sunday the 14m (to minimize competition with the Golden Music Festival being held right across the creek).

We know that our teachers go above and beyond when it comes to helping their students out, including paying for teaching materials and school supplies for their students out of pocket. We also know that teachers are some of the biggest supporters of early childhood literacy and that many classrooms have their own small libraries for students.
We want to show Jeffco's teachers just how much we appreciate everything they do for our community's kids. That's why we're giving teachers the chance to fill up not one, not two, but THREE grocery bags of books for only six dollars each!
That's right! On May 30 between 2 – 5, teachers are getting their own exclusive bag sale. All you have to do is show us your school ID when you check out and you can get three grocery size bags of books for only six dollars/bag! This means fewer people to deal with (Sundays can get a little hairy) and a much better selection of books!
The Spring Whale of a Used Book Sale is May 29th-31st at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. We’ll be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. Keep an eye on our blogs to find out how you can save even more at the Whale Sale!
We are hosting a Celebrity Read-a-thon from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, May 29, at the Jefferson County Administration Building, 100 Jefferson Parkway, in Golden. You're invited to attend to help us kick off our 1,000,001-minute Summer Reading Challenge and win prizes!
Local celebrities -- including congressmen, county commissioners, mayors, chamber of commerce directors, educators, sports figures and media personalities -- will participate in the read-a-thon to share excerpts from their favorite books and invite Jeffco residents to take part in the 1,000,001-minute Summer Reading Challenge. Kids, teens and adults can mingle with local celebrities, take "selfies" with literary characters, attend Library storytimes, sign up for our Summer Reading Challenge and receive prizes. We'll have ASL interpreters available at the event, and we've even arranged to have some food trucks at the event so you can enjoy the event and a quick meal!
The 1,000,001-minute Summer Reading Challenge will continue from May 29 through August 14. Participants who sign up and log their reading minutes on jeffcolibrary.org can win prizes throughout the summer and will be entered into a grand prize drawing to win a Leapfrog tablet (for one lucky pre-reader) or a Kindle Fire HD (for one lucky child, teen and adult).
This year’s Summer Reading program is supported by generous contributions from the Jefferson County Library Foundation and Colorado Parent Magazine. Grand prizes were donated by John Bodnar, Noviscon Realty; Julia Hill-Nichols, LeadersCove LLC; Arvada Mayor Marc Williams and his wife Luanne; and Dot Wright and Roger Miller. System wide prizes and coupons were donated by Bandimere Speedway, Beau Jo’s Pizza, Colorado Rapids, Lakeside Amusement Park, McDonald’s, Casa Bonita and Whole Foods. And a special thanks to FirstBank for supporting the Celebrity Read-a-thon event!
In the meantime, mark your calendars:

Summer Reading is underway and with it comes a host of amazing programs. As part of the City of Lakewood’s INSPIRE Arts Week, we are hosting a special program revealing the stories behind some of America’s most famous paintings, photography and sculpture.
Throughout its history, the United States has produced bold and conic art as diverse as its people. Join us for a discussion of our nation’s great masterpieces as art historian Heidi Strang, Ph.D., reveals the stories behind famous American paintings, photography and sculpture.
