Donate Crafts and Personal Care Items to Hope House

Break out your knitting needles and crotchet hooks and get creative for a good cause! As cold weather approaches, warm goods are in high demand. From November 1 through December 1, Standley Lake Library’s Yarn and Needle Arts group will collect homemade or store-bought warm goods for Hope House, a local non-profit supporting teen mothers with shelter, clothing, education and other resources.

“Hope House’s mission provides a niche service to teen mothers, who often don’t qualify for traditional shelters. Since their donation needs include knitted goods like hats and mittens, it just makes for a perfect match with our crafting group,” Standley Lake Librarian Sean Eads said. The community drives organized by the Yarn and Needle Arts event have always focused on promoting the mission of a local charity or organization that’s making a profound impact on the community.

For crafted items, you can use your own patterns or free patterns available at the Yarn and Needle Arts group events. The Standley Lake Library is accepting donations of the following crafted items, which can be in any size from newborn to adult:

  • Winter hats
  • Scarves
  • Mittens
  • Baby socks

You can also donate these store-bought personal care items:

  • Laundry detergent
  • Deodorant
  • Clorox wipes
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner

“Activating the power and goodwill of JCPL's community draws attention to an overlooked demographic, demonstrates the simple impact even small donations of goods and time can make, and furthers our mission of being a place of connection between people of all walks of life,” Eads said.

Donations are accepted at the Standley Lake Library through the end of the day on December 1. Work on your knitting, needle arts and more at crafting events at all our locations.
