Volunteers are an important community resource for Jefferson County Public Library. They provide the energy and hours to improve the efficiency of routine operations and appearance of the Library, add diversity to our human resources, and make positive contributions to the quality of life in Jefferson County.

In 2008, 233 library volunteers contributed over 8,400 hours to support library services and programs.

Who can volunteer?
Anyone age 14 and older can volunteer at one of our libraries.

What do library volunteers do?
Libraries have a variety of needs based on their programs and services. Visit your local library, to inquire about current volunteer openings.

Examples of volunteer tasks include:
  • Wash/clean books
  • Replace covers on books
  • Process magazines
  • Cut scrap paper
  • Straighten the book sale area
  • Re-shelve magazines.
  • Screen videos, books on tape, cassettes and cd's for damage.
  • Sort donated books.

In addition, the Library’s Friends & Foundation group can always use dedicated volunteers to assist with book sales, the Belmar Gift and Book Shop, mailings, programs, Friends committees and special fundraising events. For more information about volunteering with the Library's Friends & Foundation, mail them an application, or call (303)275-2240.

Volunteer recognition event
Each year an event to recognize volunteers is organized by the Jefferson County Library Foundation. This event includes a luncheon and guest speakers. It's a great time to be recognized for your contributions to the library.
