In Fall 2004, Jefferson County Public Library launched the InSight & InPerson Distinguished Author Series featuring Joyce Carol Oates.

The series was created to bring nationally recognized authors to Jefferson County, offering local book lovers the opportunity to hear prominent, award-winning authors.

The programs are free to the public and include a book signing by the featured author.

More than 1,400 people attended the sixth annual event featuring Rick Steves in 2009. More than 800 people have attended each of the annual events featuring Amy Tan in 2005, Sue Monk Kidd in 2006, Alexander McCall Smith in 2007, and Anne Lamott in 2008.
